Two evenings of events mark the observance of National Night Out in Mifflin County beginning
Monday, August 2nd. The 2nd Annual Splash Hop, sponsored by Touring Friends Motorcycle
Club, will be held at Burnham Community Pool from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010.

Entry is free and there will be opportunities to compete in a splash contest and a diving board free
style competition and win prizes (sweatshirts, sports packs, and caps). A free hot dog, soda, and
bag of chips will be available for youth under the age of 18.

The local observance of National Night Out will be held at Derry Township Community Park
beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. This Nationwide observance is being sponsored
locally by the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, Mifflin County Communities That
Care, and Community Watch organizers throughout the County. This year marks the 27th year of
National Night Out activities throughout the Country, and the 8th year of a local observance of the
National Night Out event.

The evening’s activities will begin at 6:00 with remarks by Ron Napikoski, Derry Township
Supervisor, alternate to Mifflin County Regional Police Board of Directors, and Downtown
Lewistown, Inc. Board member. Music will follow at 6:30 lasting till 8:30 provided by local
band “Three Months Off” with the flashlight walk around the track set for 8:45. The evening will
end with the showing of the new movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, sponsored by Wilson’s Gifts &
Jewelry and presented by GMan Entertainment at 9:00.

Special activities throughout the observance will include a fly-in by LifeFlight, a motorcycle and
car display, games of skill, a climbing wall, as well as games and other activities for children and
young adults. Community organizations will provide information such as Child DNA and ID kits.
Refreshments will be available at a low cost.

The National Night Out observance is designed to help foster safe neighborhoods, promote
positive relationships between the community and local law enforcement, and to enhance
the livability of our neighborhoods and communities. As a component of this effort, we
encourage residents to turn on their porch lights during the National Night Out observance.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend this observance. The event is free to the public;
donations will be accepted and will benefit this and future National Night Out events.
