The 3rd six week Mifflin County Meltdown, a community wide healthy living tune-up, is scheduled to begin with a bang on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the old LAHS auditorium (Mifflin County Highschool after first week). The weekly meetings will conclude on Tuesday, March 27th. Meeting run from 6pm to 7pm. Read below for details and speakers for each event.
Our featured guest speaker for the Mifflin County Meltdown 2012 kickoff is Abby Rike, a motivational speaker, educator, and an amazing 2009 “Biggest Loser” success story with appearances on the Today Show, the Ellen Show and Jay Leno. In 2006, Abby was living thelife she delighted in: two wonderful children; a loving husband; a job she excelled in. It all addedup to one indisputable fact: Abby Rike considered herself one blessed woman! Then one horrific evening, the life she knew and loved ended abruptly when her husband and two young children were killed in a car crash.
But in May of 2009, deciding there was more living to do in this life, Abby embarked on a very public journey of healing and wellness when she went on Season 8 of the NBC hit reality series “The Biggest Loser.” She continues her healthy lifestyle and vigor for life and is a living example that even in your darkest hour, there is always hope. The hope she shares in her recently-released book, “Working It Out, A Journey of Love, Loss, and Hope.”
Starting now tickets are on sale for this spectacular event. Tickets will be five dollars and are available at the Juniata Valley Chamber of Commerce/Historic Courthouse; Corvette America; Going Postal; Curves in Burnham; and TAZ Fitness.
All other programs are free to the public.
At the Meltdown kickoff, Abby’s newly released book “Working it Out, A Journey of Love, Loss, and Hope”. will be available to purchase Cost of the book will be twenty dollars, cash and carry. Individuals that purchase the book will also receive a free class session at TAZ Fitness; one week free at Curves, and be eligible to have their book autographed by Abby.

February 28th – Tristan Lawson, Chef -Raystown Resorts – Presentation on healthy meal preparation – The Recipe that Tristan will be making that night is a Vegetable Pasta Pomodoro with Whole Wheat Pasta. Pasta Pomodoro is an “easy and light pasta with tomatoes and garlic. Cooked chicken breast chunks or shrimp can also be added to the sauce for a great main dish!”
March 6th – Know Your Numbers - Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Body Mass Index, weight – how do you measure up? health screenings at 6:00 P.M.and will be followed by free open houses
at TAZ Zumba & Fitness Studio, Curves Fitness & Salt Cave and at
the YMCA, all located in Burnham. "Observe or participate in exercise
programs at all three locations" Starts at 6:30, set your own pace.

Spend an evening with a Registered Dietitian and learn about the basic principles of healthy eating
